Our Vision
The Mipham Institute was created in order to preserve and transmit the authentic vajrayana lineage of Tibetan Buddhism by making it possible for students to study the Tibetan language and the Dharma teachings in a deep and authentic way. The Institute will follow closely the model of a Tibetan shedra (philosophical school), offering in depth study of the Indian Buddhist classic treatises with commentaries by the great Tibetan lineage teachers, always in light of treating Dharma teachings as pith instructions to be applied in practice in accordance with the living tradition.
First study program to begin Fall 2025
Mipham Institute's program will begin with an in-person session at Padma Samye Ling Retreat Center in Upstate New York. Residing within 500 acres of serene natural environment, students will attend live classes and are encouraged to attend personal retreats and regular teachings to support their practice. In-person sessions will take place twice a year, with on campus housing options available.
Program
Mipham Institute is a hybrid (i.e. online and in-person) program, beginning Fall 2025 and ending in Spring 2028. This 3 year curriculum will teach Classical Tibetan and Buddhist philosophy, building a community of mutually supportive scholar-practitioners. In-person sessions will take place twice a year at Padma Samye Ling. Online sessions will include both live classes and pre-recorded classes that can be viewed at your convenience. ཐུན་མིན་བོད་ཀྱི་ཆོས་དང་རིག་གཞུང་རྣམས།
May the unique Dharma and learning traditions of Tibet
ཡང་དག་ལྟ་སྤྱོད་དང་འགྲོགས་ཐོས་བསམ་གྱིས།
By study and reflection, joined with the authentic view and conduct
རང་རྒྱུད་ཕྱུག་དང་གཞན་ལ་ཕན་བཞིན་དུ།
Enrich our own minds and, conducive to others' benefit
དུས་རབས་ཀུན་ཏུ་དར་རྒྱས་གནས་པར་ཤོག
Flourish and remain throughout the ages!

༅༅། རང་ལ་དེ་ལྟའི་འདོད་འདུན་ཡོད་པ་བདག་གིས་བསམ་པའི་སྟོབས་དང་ནི།
By the power of my own wishes, desiring for something just like that,
ཞི་བར་གཤེགས་པའི་ཐུགས་བསྐྱེད་བཟང་པོ་དེ་ལ་དེ་བཞིན་གཤེགས་པའི་སྟོབས།
The power of the Tathagatas for the aspiration of the One gone to peace,
མཐུན་རྐྱེན་རང་བཞིན་ལྷུན་གྱིས་འགྲུབ་པ་ཆོས་ཀྱི་དབྱིངས་ཀྱི་སྟོབས་རྣམས་ཀྱིས།
And the power of dharmadhatu, in which favorable conditions spontaneously arise,
སློབ་གླིང་འདི་ཡིས་ཕྱོགས་དུས་ཀུན་དུ་ཕན་ཐོག་འབྱུང་བའི་བཀྲ་ཤིས་ཤོག
May all be auspicious for this Institute to be beneficial at all times and in all directions!
